Head of Clinical Services at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Dr Fedelis Ojeblenu has clarrified that the index case of lassa fever in the state has not died, contrary to earlier reports.
Speaking on Sunday afternoon, Dr. Ojeblenu said although there is a case of a pregnant woman diagnosed of Lassa fever patient and who is still receiving treatments at the hospital, no one has been confirmed dead of the fever in the state.
His words: “We have a confirmed Lassa fever case in the hospital. ” A pregnant lady was admitted four days ago. The other suspected case that died on Thursday, 23rd is dengue Fever [and not lassa fever].
“The said lady has been transferred to Irrua teaching hospital on Saturday(Initially planned for FMC Owo). Surveillance tracing of all possible contacts especially our staff has commenced, while appropriate measures of containment and prevention are being put in place.
“The Infection control committee has already sent out reminders on standard precautionary practices. ” He said
