The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, says necessary laws would be enacted for the establishment of a Sport Commission, to be headed by a sport enthusiast and financier, Mr. Kunle Soname, towards rebranding and redesigning sport in the State.
Prince Abiodun, who made this known in his office while hosting Mr. Soname, assured him of government’s support in his resolve to take sport to a higher pedestal, adding that his homecoming would inspire other sons and daughters to also follow his path.
The Governor revealed that he encouraged the sport enthusiast to invest in the State by rebranding and redefining the sport sector, saying he would also assist in rejuvenating the State’s football team which was currently in comatose.
“We want you to come and help us rebrand our sports in Ogun State, particularly football. We assure you that the State will give you all the cooperation needed. You are a stakeholder and a son of the soil, if we encourage you by creating an enabling environment to invest in the State, it will be an example to those who are not our sons to come and invest here,” he said.
In his remark, Mr. Soname, promised to partner with the State in developing sports at the grassroots, adding that he would also invite his friends to come and invest in Ogun State’s sports.
“We are going to partner the State by harnessing our resources into grassroots sports development. We have seen that the drive of this administration is about public private sector participation and we are actually going to try to bring our friends, not only from Nigeria to come and invest because of the confidence that we have in this government”, he stated.
He said his idea of sport development would start from the grassroots for sustainable success in football development.
