Aftermath of the heavy downpour last week in Abeokuta which resulted to the collapse of a portion of Opako/ Adigbe road in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, Ogun State government has advised motorists and pedestrians to be careful on the road and not go to the scene for sight-seeing due to imminent danger around the area.
The Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele who led a team of senior highway engineers and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Kayode Ademolake on the directive of the Governor, urged passers-by to desist from wandering around the scene.
“We are here for an on the spot assessment and will report back to the Governor, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, so that the plight of the people can be ameliorated.
“From the inspection, we have realised that one of the biggest challenges here is that one of the culverts across the road has a very low capacity for the volume of water that flows during the rain. She revealed.
Engr Salako-Oyedele said that the solution to the problem is to increase the capacity of the drainage and other things, assuring residents that work would commence on one side without completely closing the road and once that is done, work will commence on the other side so that people will not suffer any hardship when it rains again.
She however cautioned motorists, passers-by and residents of the area to obey any instructions given to them in the course of repairing the road.
