The Ijebus are so devoted to their tradition and culture that no year passes without them converging to celebrate the Agemo Festival.
It’s their (Ijebus) belief that, during the festive period, any barren woman that renders praises to the deity would concieve and would be blessed with child.
Tradition of the land has it that, no woman is allowed to behold the Agemo when the masquerade is coming into Ijebu Land and out of the land at the end of its annual festival.
The English interpretation of Agemo is chameleon.
Ahead of this year’s Festival in Akile Ijebuland in Ogun State, the founder of OBAA foundation, Otunba Badejo Abayomi Adewale has congratulated the Tami Obanire of Ijebu Land, High Chief Oluleke Oludipe and all the 16 Alagemo Chief in the land.
According to Adewale in his goodwill message to the Ijebu people, July 4 is another year for the historical Agemo festival in Akile Ijebu Land.
He further used the medium to congratulate the newly elected Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, urging him (Dapo) to see it as another means of tourism attraction to Ogun State.
Adewale, further thanked the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu-land, Oba Sikiru Adetona for his unflinching support towards the progress of the Agemo festival.
