Concerned about the rate of cultism in the state, Ogun Assembly Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo has warned some elites and community leaders against facilitating release of suspected cultists in custody of police.
Oluomo (Ifo 1) issued the warning while responding to the submission of Mr Abdul Oladunjoye (Sagamu 1) who spoke under personal explanation during plenary in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
The speaker expressed displeasure over the recent cult clashes in the state, saying it was important to take a drastic action to curb the menace.
He stated that anyone arrested for cultism related offences should be allowed to face the wrath of the law.
Oluomo called for the cooperation of the general public to always volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of cultist in the state.
He called on the security agencies to do more in arresting perpetrators and ensure safety of lives and property in the state
” Citizens should provide necessary information. We must rid the state of cultism.
” The cultists are not ghost. Don’t go to station to bail cultist, how can leaders go to bail them, the elites, the community heads, we should rid the state of cultism,” he said.
Earlier, Oladunjoye notified the house on the ongoing cult clashes in his constituency in Sagamu.
The lawmaker appealed to the authority concerned that local security should be empowered for more effective security.
