The police command in Ogun says it has commenced the enforcement of third-party insurance across the state in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s Spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Odutola explained that the enforcement exercise began on Saturday with the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, personally leading the operation.
According to the police spokesperson, the commissioner visited key areas in Abeokuta, including Olomore, Ibara, OPIC and Panseke, to monitor compliance levels among motorists.
She noted that the exercise revealed significant adherence to the directive, saying that some motorists appealed for additional time to update their vehicle insurance papers.
” During the enforcement, motorists without valid third-party insurance but with other required vehicle documents were granted a grace period and educated on the importance of compliance.
” The CP emphasised that third-party motor insurance is a crucial safety measure that provides financial protection for accident victims and ensures insurance companies compensate those affected,” she said.
Odutola urged vehicle owners to regularise their insurance status immediately to avoid penalties.
She added that the enforcement exercise would continue across the state as part of efforts to promote road safety and uphold the rule of law.
