… chairman seeks philanthropic support for Secretariat

The Ogun State Institute of Public Relations has admonished its members to continuously build, manage and sustain relationship with others as “no man exists as an island”.

This admonision was given by the immediate past chairman of the state chapter, Mr Tope Adaramola in a lecture delivered at the End-of-the-Year Cocktail and Get-together organized by Mrs Oluwaseun Boye-led new executive officers.

The programme was held to sustain the legacy of past leadership of the professional association and to also serve as a platform to bring veterans, practicing and aspiring members together.

Speaking on the topic “Relationship Management”, Adaramola who is currently the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Adaramola explained that “for anyone to get on well and achieve a fulfilled life, he or she must continually develop kills and attitudes that will make them “acceptable” to other persons, be they in the community they live, among co-workers, or any other persons they meet in the course of their daily endeavours.

He said what professionals and career people need is “thirty percent professional skills and seventy percent relational skills, stressing that people should be emotional and social intelligent to get to the top echelon of their careers.

Adaramola charged members that since “no man exists as an island”, they should strive to enter into the world of others and refrain from being easily judgemental, adding that they should always strive to add value to others rather than taking values at all times.

He said it was important for Public Relations professionals to Imbibe good etiquette such as social etiquette (which he described as maintaining social space), telephone etiquette, dinning etiquette, social media etiquette, card etiquette and showing up for others.

Earlier in her welcome address, Chairman of the Institute of Public Relations, Ogun State Chapter, Mrs Seun Boye lamented the makeshift state of the NIPR Secretariat in the state.

“Looking back at the array of the juggernauts in our profession, the Fassy Yusuf, the Bode Mustapha, the Kabiyesi Akinale, the Doyin Ogunbiyis, the revered Olota of Ota,  the many proud  sons and daughters of the land to mention a few, we cannot continue to suffer in silence and not have our own NIPR house.
“I passionately appeal to all of us to heed this call by coming up with ideas about how to procure a suitable land and consequently build a befitting secretariat for our great profession”, Boye has said.

Boye also tasked the political actors in Nigeria to tackle issues “that will take us out of socio economic and political doldrums”.
She noted that ” insecurity is becoming more than a nightmare, majority of the youth population are now victims of Japan syndrome”, calling on the government to bring about initiatives and policies that would make life more meaningful to the Nigerian citizens.

In his goodwill message, His Royal Highness, Towulade of Akinale, Oba Femi Ogunleye expressed his gratitude to Seun Boy-led executive as well as the past leadership of the state chapter for organizing the programme to inspire and also bring members together, stressing that he would always be available to contribute ideas on moving the Chapter forward.

Other personalities present at the programme include former chairmen of the NIPR,Ogun State Chapter, Mr Bimbo Alagbe, Mr Femi Dokunmu,Mr Akin Okudero and Mr Lekan Togunwa. Others are Chief Press Secretary to Ogun State Governor, Mr Kunle Somorin, Permanent Secretary in Ogun State, Mr Seyi Shokoya, Otunba Dehinde Boye, Director of Public Relations, Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta, Mr Kola Adepoju; Head of Public Relations, Crescent University Abeokuta, Head of Public Relations, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,Mr Yemi Ajibola, Secretary of NIPR, Ogun State Chapter, Mr Kunle Olayeni, Public Relations Executive of Ogun State NIPR, Mr Ifekayode Akinbode, Mrs Modupe Apanishile (Federal Medical Centre,Abeokuta) and many others.
