A Non Governmental Organization, Tola Adebajo Foundation, has awarded Mrs Elizabeth Ologun, a mother of six children a scholarship up to the university level.
The Foundation, at the grand finale of the free summer holiday coaching organised at St James’s Anglican Primary School, Atikori, Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, announced a full scholarship to Ologun up to University Level.
She also got a cash price and certificate of excellence for her dogged determination and willingness to pursue her longed abandoned goal.
The scholarship according to the convener of the foundation, Prince Omotola Adebajo will cover her enrolment in a commercial coaching centre, external examination in November/December WAEC and University education at the National Open University (NOUN).
Recalled that, the 48 years old woman alongside two of her biological children were among the 859 secondary school students who benefited from the just concluded 4 weeks free summer classes at the instance of the foundation.
Responding, Ologun appreciated the sponsors of the gesture, promising to make good use of the opportunity and serve as a role model for every willing individual who may have been disadvantaged to aspire greatness.
The convener, Adebajo, and other stakeholders at the event demanded a review of some educational policies to accommodate creative thinking, ICT, and vocational training in secondary schools across the country.
They said that the demand became necessary because of the percentage of out-of-school children and unemployment in the country .
The stressed the need for government at all levels to join hands with critical stakeholders in fulfilling the goals and aspirations of the education sector through increased budgeting.
“Nigerian government at all levels is putting up the right educational policies, which requires everyone’s support as the government can not do it alone. In Ogun State today, Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s giant strides in education must be recognised and appreciated.
Mr. Governor’s intervention in education has been yielding positive results and education sector remains fortified because the government has continued to demonstrate sincere commitment.
Mr. Olamide Lawal, former Special Adviser to Abiodun on Youths and Sports, suggested that every student must be exposed to the economic importance of their choice of course at the advanced level.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that, education is a pivotal tool for societal development, in fact, it provides opportunities for exposure to new ideas and concepts that we can use to appreciate and improve the world around and within us.
Also, Omobolaji Odusanya, Chairman, Ijebu North Local Government, urged the students to inculcate honesty, hard work, and integrity, saying this was the only channel to pursuing greater career in life.
Odusanya called on the students to ensure they focus and participate on rigorous study in order to breakthrough and achieve success in their future endeavours while also developing self discipline as well as establishing a robust relationships with their colleagues.
Meanwhile, a total of 18 outstanding students in JSS 1 to SS 3 who excelled in the end-of-the-summer test were rewarded with cash, and other gift items which included bags, exercise books, and other writing materials.
