Man jailed 1 year for stealing 3 phones worth N104, 000

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 38-year-old man, Oluwole Lipede, to one year in correctional centre for stealing three mobile phones worth N104,000.

Lipede, who reside in Oke -Ijeun area in Abeokuta, was sentenced on a count charge of stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun, sentenced Lipede without an optionof , after he had pleaded guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the convict committed the offence on Jan. 11, in Auto Spare Part Village, Kemta area in Abeokuta.

Shonibare said the convict entered one Mutunrayo Owoigbe’s shop and stole one Samsung S9 phone valued at N47, 000.

He said the convict also stole one Infinite phone valued at N50, 000 and one Itel phone valued at N7,000, all totaling N104, 000 belonging Owoigbe, Ridwan Rahaman and Rofiat Ogunremi.

According to the prosecutor, Owoigbe was charging her phone battery in her shop alongside those of Rahaman and Ogunremi and later went out.

He said the convict entered the shop and stole the three phones when he noticed nobody was watching him.

The prosecutor said that on his arrest, the phones were found in his possession and he made a confessional statement that he stole them.

He said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
