Man, 21, in court over alleged theft of soft drinks

A Mapo  Chief Magistrates` Court in Ibadan, on Friday arraigned a 21- year-old man, Matthew Ololade over alleged stealing of soft drinks valued  N350,000

The defendant, whose house address was not provided, is being tried for theft.

The prosecution, Insp Oluseye Akinola told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Feb. 5 and March 26, at New Garage area in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Akinola alleged that the defendant repeatedly broke into the complainant, Fisayo Adesanya’s store to steal soft drinks valued N350,000.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant was out of luck when members of the vigilance group apprehended him while stealing from the same store.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened section 383, and punishable under section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 vol. 11 Law of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr O.O. Latunji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the matter until April 22, for commencement of trial.
