The Labour Party has described the death of former Interim Head of State in Nigeria, Chief Ernest Shonekan as a rude shock.
Mr Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, stated this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Arabambi noted that Shonekan was a very brilliant and vibrant economist as well as an efficient public administrator.
” Considering the level of instability in the Nation at this period ,the three month national leadership of late Shonekan could not be seen in a clear picture as his Government only spent three months.
“He was for many decades the top shot and the business engine of one of the most successful blue – chip companies then, driving the very stable and evidently robust economy of the country.
“Shonekan earned recognition through his capacity as a great administrator to be appointed in a negotiated political compromise to the office of the Head of Government in an interim capacity in 1993.
“Late Shonekan held the country together as one nation and a united Nigeria,” he said.
Arabambi explained that the late Head of Interim Government lived a life of a good Christian.
