The police command in Ogun has warned that owners of vehicles without proper registration or documents will be impounded, and offenders prosecuted.
CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s Spokesperson disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday.
Odutola explained that the command had embarked on campaign addressing the rampant use of unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, and dealership plate numbers.
She stated that the attitude violated extant traffic and vehicle registration laws.
She noted that statistical review of 2024 crime data revealed that most crimes in the state were perpetrated by individuals using vehicles in flagrant disregard of traffic regulations.
The police spokesperson identified some of the crimes to include kidnapping, armed robbery, and rival cult killings.
” Offenses such as operating without valid papers, driving unregistered vehicles, using expired dealership licenses, and applying artificial tint to cars have become alarmingly common.
” The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed all drivers in the state to regularise their vehicle documents promptly.
” There is a grace period for compliance, during which drivers are expected to update their papers.
” After the sensitisation period, the police will adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward violators.
” This crackdown is part of a broader effort to ensure safety and curb criminal activities in the state,” she said.
Odutola urged residents to adhere strictly to traffic laws and cooperate with the authorities to foster a secure environment.
She reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning recalcitrant offenders that non-compliance would attract severe consequences.
