A foundation, Owu Empowerment Foundation , on Thursday , said it would support the Ogun state government in fighting the narrative of poor water and power supply in Owu community, the hometown of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The Chairman Board of Trustees of the foundation, Banji Oyegbami , stated this during the foundation’s Annual General Meeting, held at the palace of Olowu in Abeokuta.
Oyegbami noted that the foundation would also consider the donation of boreholes and transformers to affected communities under Owu Kingdom.
He explained that the Foundation was created to empower indigenes of Owu kingdom as well as promote and sustain the position of Owu community among other Yoruba communities.
The chairman also stressed that the foundation had empowered over 200 youths of the community in ICT and driving skills between January and September, 2022.
To end the trend of poor water and electricity supply, Oyegbami said the foundation would come with survey to identify areas that needed boreholes and transformers.
“Our focus is to empower our people. We empower them by training them in one skill or the other. We want to empower them in the area of business and give them loans.
” We will do our survey to know those who need borehole, which boreholes have stopped functioning so as to rehabilitate them, where transformers are needed and with the help of our donors, we will put those things in place and ask someone to monitor them.
Some of the beneficiaries of the foundation’s empowerment gesture, Olowu Lateef , said the foundation had assisted in the fulfilment of his dream of becoming a web developer, having participated in the ICT training.
“I used to see people development website and always dream of becoming one. Thanks to the foundation, I am now a certified web developer. We were given laptops to further practice what we were taught,” he said.
Another beneficiary, Akinlade Yusuf, said he was able to learn driving and was also assisted in acquiring a driving license.
“It is a fine programme, we were able to learn driving from the scratch. I have acquired skill in driving, not only that, I was also given a driving license,” he said.
