Accidents claim 61 lives in Ogun in 3 months – TRACE


The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) says 61 lives were lost in various road accidents across the state in the first quarter of 2022.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the TRACE Spokesperson, disclosed this in a First quarter statistics of road traffic crashes issued in Abeokuta on Saturday.

Akinbiyi explained that 155 accidents involving 135 vehicles and 20 motorcycles were recorded between January and March.

He noted that 61 deaths which comprised of 47 male and 14 female were recorded during the period under review, saying that 214 injuries were also recorded.

The TRACE image maker added that 49 deaths were recorded through motor vehicle accidents while motorcycle accidents resulted in 12 deaths.

He explained that most of the crashes were as a result of non-challant attitude, selfishness and non adherence to simple traffic rules and regulations.

” Out of the three factors that causes crashes on our roads, human factor, mechanical factor and environmental factor, human factor resulted into most of the crashes.

” We should obey and comply with simple traffic rules and regulations that guides and modifies our conducts while on the road.

“We should also avoid the use of expired tyres,” he said.
